Overview
carVertical provides vehicle history reports based on a car’s VIN, helping users avoid scams and make informed purchases.
I mainly worked on A/B testing designs, redesigning pricing and checkout pages based on feedback gathered from usability tests, which I also helped to conduct.
I also visually updated the mobile app, so it would better reflect the company’s brand.
Mobile app redesign
The app’s interface was outdated and visually inconsistent with the main brand. I delivered a full visual refresh aligned with carVertical’s design system.
While I had to preserve existing user flows for development efficiency, I ensured the UI felt modern, clean, and ready for future feature expansion.
Checkout redesign
Although the previous checkout flow showed no friction in user testing, the desktop layout wasn’t ideal. I designed a new version specifically for desktop, which was A/B tested and there was a slight increase in revenue and conversion rates.
The updated design improved clarity, hierarchy, and overall purchase experience.
Precheck redesign
The checkout was redesigned based on user feedback—many were confused about multi-report offers after entering a single VIN. They weren’t sure if they needed to buy three reports to get full details, or how to check other cars later.
I proposed expanding the pricing cards to clearly explain that users get a report for the entered VIN and credits to use on future vehicles. Tooltips were added to show where to find and how to use those credits.
After implementation, support requests dropped and conversion rates improved.
Blog redesign
The blog no longer matched carVertical’s rebranded identity, so I redesigned it using the updated design system and the new brand guidelines. The new layout introduced a scrollable table of contents and a reading progress indicator to improve navigation and reader engagement.
